"This year, we have more children than ever having accidents all over the kindergarten floor. We are happy to support them, but with 22 kids in the room, it is really hard to manage."

The Challenge

The Poo & Pee Problem

In early learning centres across the country, educators and parents are struggling with inconsistent approaches to toileting and hygiene support for children. The result? The average age for toilet independence is increasing (3.5 years) and more children are starting school without being full continent.

National policy advocates supervision, hygiene and dignity - but what does that look like in practice? In the lack of clear national toileting guidelines, the industry is facing too much variation—and children are caught in the middle. Parents are confused. Educators are quickly overwhelmed. And centre directors try to navigate complex regulatory requirements without clear policy.

There is a better way - a Brilliant way. Our approach combines clinical expertise, child development wisdom, and practical, centre-friendly strategies while working within National Law. Coupled with parent education and resources, educators, kids and families can now work together for a truly child-centred, consistent and simply Brilliant toilet learning journey.

Our Approach

The Be Brilliant Way

We developed an urge-directed (not timed) toileting approach—one that respects each child's unique body signals and developmental readiness. This isn't about rigid schedules or one-size-fits-all checklists.

Our methodology combines occupational therapy expertise with early childhood education principles. We teach educators and families to become "body detectives"—observing clues, understanding patterns, and responding with confidence.

The result? Calmer classrooms. More confident educators. Happier families. And children who develop lifelong skills with dignity and joy.

Our Mission

Bridging the Gap

At Be Brilliant, we're on a mission to bridge the gap between clinical healthcare requirements and everyday daycare reality. We believe that every child deserves consistent, dignified support as they develop toileting and hygiene independence—and that every educator deserves the knowledge and confidence to provide that support.

The early childhood sector is facing unique challenges. Regulatory requirements around hygiene and continence are becoming more stringent, yet many educators receive minimal training in this area during their qualifications. Meanwhile, families are navigating complex toileting journeys at home, often feeling isolated and overwhelmed when things don't go according to plan.

We've seen too many children caught in the middle—struggling with constipation, withholding, or anxiety around toileting—while the adults around them struggle to coordinate a unified approach. That's where Be Brilliant comes in.

Our approach is built on the understanding that children thrive when the grown-ups around them are connected. When educators and families share observations, use consistent language, and approach challenges with the same calm curiosity, children feel safe to learn and grow. We teach practical, play-based strategies that honour each child's developmental readiness while meeting the operational needs of busy early learning centres.

We're not about quick fixes or rigid protocols. We're about building lasting capabilities—in children, in educators, and in families. We want to see a sector where toileting conversations are approached with the same professionalism and care as any other developmental milestone. Where educators feel equipped to support children with complex needs. Where families feel heard and supported, not judged. And where children develop the body awareness, confidence, and skills they need for lifelong health and independence.

Together, we're not just managing messy moments—we're transforming them into opportunities for connection, learning, and growth.
